Thank you to everyone who has registered for this year’s Trainee Forum, an NIH grants workshop. Below you will find details about the time, location, and topics to be presented. See you bright and early August 12!

Sunday, August 12, 7:30-11:00 a.m.
Thomas Hall, Room 100

7:30 a.m. - Breakfast buffet. Thomas Hall Courtyard near Room 100 (for pre-registered participants only; a ticket will be provided in your registration packet).

8:00 a.m. - Demystifying the NIH grant review process. Drs. Susan Taymans, Stuart Moss, and Gary Hunnicutt will host a mock study section and help demystify the NIH grant review process. Dr. Taymans is the Program Director of Reproductive Genetics and Epigenetics, and Basic Ovarian Biology at NICHD and the co-chair of NICHD’s Training Policy Committee. Dr. Moss is the Program Director of Male Reproductive Health at NICHD and has served as a Scientific Review Officer (SRO). Dr. Hunnicutt is the SRO of the Cellular, Molecular and Integrative Reproduction (CMIR) study section in the Center for Scientific Review at NIH.

During the mock study section, 3 trainee "volunteers" will participate with 3 experienced reviewers in reviewing 3 applications: an R03, an R01, and a K99.

In addition to the actual study section, the following will be discussed:
     1) The process of submitting an application to the NIH.
     2) What happens to your application once it is submitted.
     3) What happens after the application is reviewed and when you receive the score and critique.

A panel discussion with experienced reviewers will follow the session, during which participants will have an opportunity to ask questions.
